Lunar Beauty by Mauri Estrada

The Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year, is the most important festivity celebrated in China and in Chinese communities around the world. Over five percent of Filipinos are Tsinoys of mixed Filipino and Chinese heritage, thus, making the celebration a big part of many Filipinos’ lives.

For our February issue, we would like to give recognition to our Filipino-Chinese friends by focusing on their captivating beauty, providing looks that perfectly match their feature, and empowering every single Tsinay to feel confidently beautiful about themselves, as inspired by the Chinese New Year color, Red, regard as the symbol of energy, happiness, goodluck and power.

The key is not always on luck alone, but it all starts with proper prepping of your skin. Here, I prepped Jane’s skin with Deoproce Premium Total Solution Toner Infused with Green Tea to keep the skin glowing and smooth. Then I applied Snail Recovery Cream from Deoproce as well, because it has anti-wrinkle and whitening components with deep moisturizing, which I prefer to use for my clients. Some of us may feel uncomfortable with the use of anti-wrinkle creams at a younger age, but these properties are very important for those with active outdoor lifestyle and for those with long hours of exposure to radiation. To keep it simple, “Prevention is always better than cure”.

Next, I used two of my favorite products from Revlon, the new Photoready Rose Glow Hydrating + Illuminating Primer and Candin Glow Foundation, giving her skin that natural moisture glow. I tell you, these products from Revlon are truly a show off! When the skin has finally absorbed the foundation, I applied a very minimal amount of one of my makeup holy grails, Laura Mercier Translucent Powder to keep everything in place, and it never fails.

Moving to the eyes, I used warm tones from Nars Afterglow Eyeshadow Palette. Using Graph-Ink Liner by Carelin to give definitions and emphasis to her beautiful chinita eyes.

To create a dash of drama,I finished it with false eyelashes by Paulash. I love how raw her eyebrows look like, so I kept it as natural as possible. To keep the brows groomed,  I applied Brow Soap by Fulbrows, then I used my favorite Strokes Beauty Lab Microblade Pen Perfector in grafite just to add an illusion of hair strands, making it look a little fuller.

With Chinese New Year ahead, may all the stars align in our favor, bringing in the luck that we all need, while continuously working hard for our dreams to finally come to reality.
